Saskia lives in ‘s Gravendeel, a small village near Rotterdam, the Netherlands, together with her husband Paul, who is the love of her life. Drawing and painting is Saskia’s passion.
Saskia was born in 1979 in the Sterrenlaan (translated: Stars Lane) in a teeny tiny village called Puttershoek. When she was one year old, she moved with her parents and older brother to Dordrecht, which is close to Rotterdam, where both her parents were born.
In Dordrecht Saskia spent her youth, but she never felt like she belonged there. At home she would get lost in movies or books with the most amazing stories. She got hooked on everything Disney when she was nine years old, and visiting Disneyland for the first time. All of this sparked the need to create her own stories, and draw her own characters.
After high school Saskia attended the Marja van Riel fashion academy in Rotterdam, where she got her degree in fashion and styling in 2000. After that it was time to find a job. She worked as a stylist for five years, and in 2006 seized the opportunity to take over a shop, where she had been a customer herself for several years. Here she mainly sold Disney collectibles. In the meantime she met Paul, whom she would marry in 2014.
At the end of 2014 she decided to turn a new leaf, and close her store in Rotterdam to continue on as an online store. Meanwhile the creative flame keeps burning. So in her spare moments, Saskia is busy drawing and painting.
In April 2012 Saskia got the opportunity to exhibit her work for the first time ever at the Elf Fantasy Fair in Haarzuilens, where her work was well received. One of her paintings was featured as the cover illustration of the Rejected Quarterly. Another painting was exhibited in the CODA Museum in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
Saskia uses mixed media for her artwork, sometimes water colors combined with acrylics, other paintings are created in Photoshop. She tries to keep improving by attending painting lessons. You can see for yourself if they have paid off.
Thank you for taking an interest in my artwork. I hope you enjoy it.
